This stunning necklace showcases two vintage Art Deco-style jet glass and marcasite cabochons.
Marcasites are cut and polished pieces of pyrite, also known as fool's gold. Marcasites jewelry has been around since ancient Greece. However, it reached its trendy zenith with the Art Deco designs in the 1930s. This isn't surprising, given its lavish sparkle was perfectly suited to the Jazz Age opulence.
It's also not surprising that German glassmakers profited from this trend by manufacturing imitation pressed glass marcasites coated with a brilliant silver luster like those featured in this necklace.
