These earrings showcase both antique and vintage jet glass elements.

Up top, you'll find two antique jet glass buttons featuring six-petalled flowers with every other petal in a matte finish.

We discovered these flower buttons in a dusty New York City Garment District warehouse over a decade ago in what was to this day one of our most brilliant button-hunting finds. A Parisienne newspaper, dated 1912, was still wrapped around the packages.

Two early 20th-century hand-painted jet glass ovals hang from the flower buttons.

In 1861, Queen Victoria's husband inadvertently made black glass buttons trendy by dying of typhoid fever. The Queen wore mourning attire for the rest of her life, and as she and her court determined what was fashionable, her signature black buttons became all the rage.

In this piece:

  • Jet glass flower buttons, made in France circa 1912
  • Antique hand-painted jet glass ovals, circa 1910-1920
  • Brass stampings made today in the USA in vintage dies
  • Brass setting made today in the USA in vintage dies
  • Nickel-free & lead-free brass euro wire closures
  • Hangs 1 1/2”
