This bracelet is centered by an exceptionally rare Victorian-era emaux peints enamel button depicting an 18th-century woman in a pastoral scene. We were thrilled to find three of these extraordinary buttons!

The enamel button is flanked by a small yet diverse starter collection of antique buttons with carved pearl, cut steel, and tinted brass.

We’ve named this bracelet after an accomplished but little-known 18th-century woman named Emilie du Châtelet. She was one of the few women of her time to study calculus and was a devoted student of philosophy, math, and science. When she was eighteen, she married a Marquis but later became Voltaire’s lover, likely due to a shared passion for discussing physics and natural philosophy.

This rare button is flanked on either side by a collection of diverse Victorian-era buttons of carved pearl, cut steel, and tinted brass.

In this piece from ring end:

  • Carved ocean pearl button with cut steel center, circa 1880-1890
  • Tinted brass and pewter button, circa 1880-1890
  • Small steel cup button with brass and cut steel center, circa 1880-1890
