This striking necklace is centered by a lampworked opal glass midcentury Czechoslovakian cabochon. Opal glass is created by hand mixing and molding multiple glass colors with tiny pieces of goldstone glass.
Suspended below the opal is a collectible striped moonglow German glass cabochon from the same era.
Czech and German glass artisans honed their skills for centuries, and then in the early 18th century, they were the first to start pressing hot glass into molds. By the early 20th century, they’d mastered their craft and were exporting exquisitely detailed glass buttons and cabochons worldwide.
Both cabochons in this necklace were hand-pressed using centuries-old processes. And they both testify to the enduring talents of German and Czech glass artisans.
