This enchanting necklace showcases three different styles of midcentury powder blue glass.
The center button was manufactured in the USA by the B. Schwanda Button Company, which operated from 1894 to 1969 and was renowned for making remarkable molded glass and ocean pearl buttons. We bought this lovely button from the company owner shortly before he died in his late nineties.
An ethereal midcentury moonglow glass cabochon hangs from the Schwanda button. Moonglows have an opaque glass interior, sealed with a clear glass top, creating a satiny, almost glowing appearance.
We added two tiny blue and white givré glass baguettes above the Schwanda button to add a little sparkle. Givré glassmakers use a lampworking torch to heat glass and then a swirling technique to create distinctive opaque color ribbons.
